Outreach

Outreach is a core value at St. Mary's, expressed by giving 10% of our income to those outside our own church.  We have maintained this commitment for over 30 years, including during periods of considerable financial constraint.  We pair our monetary donations with our own efforts to help those in need in the local community and beyond.

An Outreach Committee recommends donations for Vestry approval to address hunger, homelessness, healthcare/education, those affected by natural disaster, or local community members requiring emergency funding. We host annual Summer Fair and Art & Spirit fundraisers whose income is dedicated to outreach, along with designated special offerings on Christmas, Good Friday, Easter, and Thanksgiving.

In collaboration with another local church, we collect canned goods and non-perishables for an Open Pantry available year-round to anyone in need.  Each Saturday during January and February, St. Mary’s parishioners host a winter lunch with hot food and opportunity for social engagement.  We make our facilities available to community groups for concerts and plays, to service groups such as AA and NA, and to those who need a space to celebrate a personal event.

In the wider world, we provided financial support to the Baobab Children’s Home and Steven Tito School in Tanzania, an orphanage and school for children of HIV+ parents, and remember them in the Prayers of the People each Sunday. Three of our parishioners have traveled to the school and its directors have visited St. Mary’s on two occasions.

For several years pre-Covid, three of our parishioners helped staff a Wisconsin Rotary Club-sponsored ‘pop-up’ medical clinic in a rural Guatemalan village.  The parish and individual parishioners supported them financially.

Many of our members volunteer at local organizations such as Soup Kitchen in Provincetown, Helping Our Women, Habitat for Humanity, and more.  Our congregation is generous with time and talent, as well as treasure, and committed to both supporting our own parish and aiding those beyond it as well.
